John Lennon was more than a musical artist. He was the truest example of what self-sacrifice looked like. Mr. Lennon changed the game and impacted more lives outside a studio than inside of one. I can go on and on about all of his most popular songs that had a hold on me, but we'll see what I can pull.
As we all know Lennon has wrote, produce, and released tons of inspiring songs that has helped the world grow and heal.
Let's start this off with a song that made me a true fan of Lennon:
I first heard Image at the age of fifteen. By the time I was done listening to it the first time around Lord knew I had to play it a second and third time. Besides the songs quality the lyrics are so profound.
It's easy if you try
No hell below
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there is no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you"
These words pierce straight through the soul of humanity (or at least should). Any logical person should listen to this song and say, damn look at the world as it is. Maybe this song should be played on loud speakers all over the world.
Merry Xmas (The War is Over) was an outcry to put the Vietnam War to a closing. The ability to make a Christmas song and giver it a double meaning is straight up amazing and takes talent indeed. Many artist have covered this song. However not one artist of this day and age have not released any songs as a battle cry against any serious issues that are plaguing us as we speak. Even those who didn't agree with Lennon enjoyed the song as well.
I'll share with you another favorite of mine. This particular song deals with our belief in God:
Yes God is a concept by which we measure our pain. The inserted image above is right and exact. Come to think of it whenever we pray our selected deity the two things we ask for is strength to pick us up out of weakness or healing to take our pain away (whatever it may be). This concept of praying to God when in turmoil is primarily based on measurement. Breaking the chains of dogma (including Lennon's) is the purpose of this song. Throughout the song Lennon doesn't believe in any of the selected deities we worship such as Buddha, Krishna, and Jesus. If one was to listen to this song at the right moment in your life you will seem to enjoy it, putting the song on double repeat.
Of course Mr. Lennon has tons of other songs that are just as magnificent and groundbreaking as the three that I have picked. However the list would fill a garbage bin full of unsatisfied journal entries, wasting time and space for this commemoration.
Myself and the world at large would like to say thank you to John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono. The two of you brought a movement of peace, love, and tranquility to the forefront of Rock 'N' Roll. You guys didn't mind facing criticism for sounding and being different for a cause that was bigger than a simpleton's critique. The tow of you are an inspiration that other artist should but can't follow. Thank you for being justifiable figures when no one else wanted to. Lastly, we would like to thank you for making our world a better place to live and exist in. Ms. Yoko Ono may you continue to thrive in health. Mr. John Winston Ono Lennon may you rest in paradise on this day (The eighth of December) and forever more.
